This year has been jam packed, like a pikey’s pockets in Primark, overflowing with festivals of all sizes. With a calendar as saturated as the summer’s flooded fields it was inevitable that some would sink.

This summer’s abysmal weather has resulted in a number of 2007 festival cancellations. For events like Cambridge’s self-proclaimed “new music” LodeStar festival, set to feature The Rakes and Idlewild, and Cheshire’s Acoustic Festival of Britain, due to play host to The Bluetones and The Saw Doctors, the rain stopped play leaving sites and access routes unfit for use.

Similarly, Swansea’s fledgling Fflam festival, originally postponed due to poor conditions, later had to be cancelled when it’s A-grade acts (Keane, Manic Street Preachers, Feeder, Placebo) were unable to reschedule a mutually agreeable date.

Other 2007 flops include the Isle of Man’s brand new “Rock The Rock” festival, with rumours of a line up to be headlined by Coldplay. Despite getting the initial go-ahead from authorities, Rock The Rock never got off the ground due to “a number of contributing factors” - very cloak and dagger.

And it’s not just the UK who suffered this year. Recent wildfires in Greece have led to the cancellation of Athens’ Terra Vibe Festival, with scheduled acts including The Smashing Pumpkins, Kasabian and the poor old Manic Street Preachers again.

Note to self: If ever selecting a festival line up, beware the Manics’ curse...
