Festivals round-up: Beastie Boys and their midgets rock Bestival

A capacity twice the size of previous years no doubt thrilled Bestival organisers when it was first announced, but in reality it meant double the normal festival problems, says The Telegraph. The jump from 17,000 to 30,000 fans meant bus and ferry services to the Isle Of Wight were ‘crippled’.
Still, at least the music rocked. The Go! Team – inspired by guitarist Kaori’s hair-raising motorway crash en route – thrilled those that did make it on site. And The Beastie Boys did it in typical inimitable style, renaming the location the Isle Of Mike and arriving on stage with midgets and pirates.
MTV has individual round ups of each day and focuses more on the glorious weather than the commuting problems. Day One highlights were The Cuban Brothers dropping Club Tropicana and The Chemical Brothers with a set way better than their soggy offering at this year’s Glastonbury.
Day Two was fancy-dress-tastic - as the Beastie’s pirates were joined by lobsters, oompa loompas and more. The audience even got to display their efforts in a specially organised parade. Highlights included Robyn’s ‘perfect pop’, South American group Bonde De Role spinning Grease classic Summer Nights and of course The Beasties.
The festival’s MySpace page messageboard, often the best yardstick of how an event went, remains as yet unchanged… no doubt they all partied too hard and are now catching up on some much needed sleep.
