Camping is for masochists
Camping might be the old-school way of doing the festivals, but it's hard to ignore the obvious drawbacks. Driving rain, howling gales and the very real possibility of getting back after the headline set to discover that some wag's pinched all of your tent poles. Podpads think they have the answer. They claim to provide the "solution to the less attractive aspects of camping", although given that the solution is basically a solid wooden wendy house, it's more of a full-on replacement.
In return for your money you get a lockable, wooden house complete with a 8w light and optional cigarette lighter for charging phones or iPods, should you miss the point completely and bring a music player to a music festival. You also get a pair of beds (or a single double), complete with under-bed storage.
And how much does all of this weatherproof, multi-coloured shelter cost? Well, at £450 for Glastonbury or £345 for Womad (as well as a multitude of other festivals here) they ain't cheap, but if the thought of spending a few nights under a few weedy layers of canvas and the possibility of waking up to the sight of a portaloo floating past, you could yet find yourself fighting off hordes of muddy hippies if the mud hits the fan.

Damn straight. No sign of a plastic tea set, though.
