In-Tents Questioning: Field Day – Laura La Rue

Our latest festivalee likes to keep a bit of a low profile and has more than a passing resemblance to an L.A. IT Girl. Here’s her experience of the Field Day festival, minus the entourage.
1. Kindly tell us your name, age and where you’re from. Now.
Laura La Rue, 22, London.
2. Which festival have you recently attended?
Field Day.
3. Have you attended this festival before? If yes, how does this year compare?
No, this was the first one.
4. Which act gave the best performance, and why?
Laura Marling was very good, the sound was great and her voice is amazing.
5. If you could have promoted one act on the bill to headline status, who would you choose? Why?
The acts were in quite a strange order. Adem and Absentee were on too early - most people hadn’t arrived when they were onstage.
6. Did your opinion of any acts change radically as a result of their performance?
Not especially. A lot of the bands were up-and-coming so it was an introduction to new music rather than a show of popular acts.
7. Nicest surprise / biggest disappointment (music-related or otherwise)?
Nicest surprise was the weather! And some lovely raspberry cup cakes. Biggest disappointment has to be the bar queue, you had to wait at least an hour to be served.
8. What was the best heckle you heard?
“Turn it up” was a common heckle at Battles. Pretty pointless because they didn’t and the shouting just made it harder to hear!
9. Any high-quality onstage banter you feel deserves highlighting?
Gruff Rhys performed a track where he screamed for half of it. I didn’t really get it.
10. What was the funniest moment (music-related or otherwise)?
Seeing a man dressed as a fox.
11. Weirdest moment (if different)?
(see above)
12. Any moments of sheer terror you’d like to share?
Going to the toilet towards the end of the day and having to stand in wee. Eugh. Worse than the last day of Glasto.
13. Anything you wish you’d brought with you?
A hip flask full of vodka!
14. Anything you wish you’d left behind?
My bladder.
15. Please mark the following elements out of 10, with any comments:
General facilities: 2/10. Only two sets of toilets (24 in total), two bars and one barbecue for 5000 people.
Crowd / audience: 9/10, Very East London cool but not offensive in the slightest!
Food and drink value for money: 4/10 I’m vegetarian which apparently means I only eat chips. And a pint of flat Blackthorn set me back £3.50.
16. Finally – anything else you’d like to mention?
In their defence, Field Day organisers have now sent out apologetic emails to everyone who bought tickets - so they are clearly aware of the massive errors in their organisation.
Thanks for taking part in our humble questionnaire. Your place in heaven is assured (assuming you haven’t previously murdered anyone).
