Must-see V Festival action: Kasabian, Kanye and Primal Scream

Panic not -the evil sheep lords haven’t triumphed. Despite foot and mouth threatening one of the UK’s finest with cancellation, experts have decreed the V Festival is safe to go ahead this weekend. Hurrah! So if you’re heading to Chelmsford and/or Staffordshire, what to see? Here’s a whole lotta info to digest…
First on the list should be Primal Scream, who’ve let slip they’ll be debuting new material. Big-mouthed Mani revealed a few new tracks will be in the set list to treat fans – the first time they’ll be played in the UK.
Next on your fantasy to-do list? Kasabian. It’s true the boys are often full of bluster, but right now they’re on a genuine summer high which has prompted Serge to predict V could be their finest gig ever.
A visual, rather than aural, must-see is showman Kanye West. His performance will reportedly be boosted by some dramatic geometrically made-up dancers, courtesy of cosmetics giant MAC. You remember his gold hotties at the BRITs, right?
For sheer legend status, look out for Roderigo Y Gabriela. The gluttons-for-punishment are taking to the V stage FOUR times over the weekend. Is that a record? They were already booked to perform when they agreed to replace Bright Eyes, which means they’ll be zipping back and forth like yoyos. It may be rather showbiz, but what about the carbon footprint darling?
And for an in-form filly right now, plump for Pink. She stormed the Carling Academy Brixton in her warm-up for V and could well be one not to miss. Providing, that is, that the British paparazzi don’t chase her away trying to follow up rumours her marriage to motorcross star Carey Hart is in crisis.
Other than that it’s the usual suspects - Foo Fighters, The Killers, Manic Street Preachers, Lily Allen - providing she's shaken off those various lurgies. In drop out corner, Amy Winehouse may be freshly out of rehab but it’s safe to say she will be a no, no, no - joining The Bravery, Jesse Marlin and Bright Eyes on the cancellation list.
There are some very last minute headline swaps to note too. Due to ‘circumstances beyond V’s control’ Hylands Park will now see The Kooks headline on Saturday and Basement Jaxx on Sunday. Vice versa with Weston Park, obviously.
After more practical info? The weather’s looking a bit wet I’m afraid. For traffic updates, including information on the new park and ride service, check out the official V website. Ooh, and don’t be tempted by the naughty stuff… police have announced there’ll be a serious crackdown on drug taking this year. Everyone will be searched – so get there early and expect some queues.
Any other business? Just one thing: Don’t forget to enjoy yourself.
