Can You Gig It?: Morrissey @ Camden Roundhouse, London, 25.1.08

mozza3.gifTo say that Tech Digest's Katherine Hannaford is fond of Morrissey is a bit like saying Amy Winehouse has a slight penchant for the crack. The woman is obsessed. She went to see Mozza the other night at the show he cancelled a few songs in. Oh dear, how did she cope?

- How did you rate the venue?

It was held at the Camden Roundhouse, which I love - alcohol isn't *too* overpriced, the views tend to be good from the main floor, and if the tickets get lost in the mail when being sent to you (as happened with me), they'll issue you with replacements - much better than crummy Ticketmaster, who don't do that!

- What were the crowd like?

The crowd was brilliant. Lots of Mozfather lookalikes and rowdy Northerners, although I was quite worried some of the Mancunians would be even more miserable after he stopped playing halfway through the fourth song - he lost his voice. I still say that one of the Morrissey-lookalikes in the crowd could've got up on stage and pretended to be him, we would've been none the wiser...

- Was the support act any good or did it send you to the bar?

Who turns up to a Mozza gig for the support act!? I was in the pub across the road. Apparently they were called 'Girl In A Coma'. I was hoping that they'd put an act on after Morrissey, called 'There Is A Light'!

- Bar โ€“ rip-off or value for money?

Quite reasonable for a gig venue. Anything's got to be better than Koko and their extortionate prices.

- Venue staff โ€“ nice or nasty?

I cannot say enough nice things about them. As aforementioned, my tickets got lost in the mail, and they were so friendly and helpful when issuing me with replacements. I think the customer service there - both on the phone, and at the venue - is the best I've ever had in London.

- Toilets โ€“ swilling with piss, or spick and span?

Amazingly clean and plenty of them, as well. Highly recommended!

- Highlight / lowlight of show?

Morrissey's band looked like the members from Four Poofs And A Piano, all dressed in matching red tight t-shirts. It was great. The lowlight was of course when Moz left the stage during his fourth song, as he lost his voice, and then we waited 20 minutes until we heard anything...and who came on stage but effing Russell Brand to apologise. At least Jonathan Ross and David Walliams were with him - they got booed, and someone threw a bottle at Walliams and it hit him, hah!

- Any other comments?

Being told Morrissey was sick and the gig was going to be cancelled by Russell Brand was like being told by your worst enemy that your dog had been run over. I can just imagine him backstage "Mozzie's out of action! Finally, my turn to shine! A splendid opportunity for yours truly to remind all those citizens of my deep and profound love for the Mozfather! Out of my way, Walliams!"
