This weekend's festival news update
![]()
Fingers are crossed all over the country that the evil weather will quieten down in the next few days to allow this weekend’s festival brood to go on unscathed. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, here’s a round up of the latest news on what to expect.
- Global Gathering will defy the weather to stay on this weekend, says the NME. All hail Long Marston Airfield’s drainage system, apparently the reason for the braving of the elements. Basement Jaxx and Faithless will probably not be bothered about the availability of hot showers what with their luxury tour buses, but the punters will be chuffed to bits.
- The WOMAD Festival will spend its first year in 25 away from Reading this weekend – moving to Charlton Park in Wiltshire. Organisers have announced some more latecomers to the line up. Efestivals says 3-D, Beat Bristol and Mitch Benn will join an already mighty line up of seventy acts, headed up by Seth Lakeman, Isaac Hayes and Peter Gabriel.
- The world’s most dribble-inducing festival returns this weekend. Ben & Jerry’s Sundae On The Common has a tasty line up too, with The Feeling, Kate Nash, Rumble Strips and those mighty ginger twins The Proclaimers. Plus toe-wrestling and free ice-cream – who could say no? XFM have the details on the Clapham Common extravaganza.
- Cambridgeshire’s Secret Garden Party HQ has assured ticket holders swamping them with with weather enquiries that all will be well. They say: “According to our farmer hosts 'the site doesn't ever flood as it is fen-drained farming land, but it does get a little muddy.' So pack those wellies and come on down.” So The Hoosiers, Reverend & The Makers and Echo & The Bunnymen can party on with the return of the event’s 6am licence. Get twirly with their previously-reviewed 360-degree-view website here.
- That’s not the only thing going on in the county this weekend. The Cambridge Folk Festival – featuring Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and Jenny McCormick – is anticipating not weather problems but traffic delays due to road closures. More info and alternative route details here.
